$85,000 UD Legendary Cuts Card May Have TWO Fake Autographs! By Adam McFarland |
The one of a kind Upper Deck baseball card featuring autographs from Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, and Honus Wagner might not be so rare after all. The card was pulled from a pack of 2005 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts (shown here) and features four of the five inductees into the inaugural class of the Baseball Hall of Fame. A great pull – if it was real. This card first attracted attention back in November when collector Barry Scott of Guntown, Mississippi put the card up for auction. I ripped into Barry Scott in the Weekly Report for not accepting $50,000 for the card, which had initially been valued at $20,000. It turns out I was wrong – the card sold on eBay for a cool $85,000 and I apologized to Mr. Scott the next week and that was the end of it…or so I thought. [read more] |

SportsLizard.com Launches Enhanced Collectibles Browsing, Moble Site |
OK, this probably isn't one of the top collectibles stories of the month, but I do think that both of these things are important to the hobby. If you haven't already seen it, we launched a new browsing application this past week that, in addition to being able to search collectibles, enables you to quickly compare multiple categories from several sites (eBay and Amazon included) all in one spot without having to open multiple browser windows. If you take five minutes to play around with the application, I am sure that you will find value in the speed and simplicity in which it lets you compare collectibles from across the web. Future improvements and enhancements will be based largely on your feedback so I encourage you to email me with your thoughts. Also, earlier in the month SportsLizard.com launched a mobile site. Now those of you who like to surf the web on your phone or wireless device have a new way to catch up on your sports collectibles news. One of the things that I am trying to push with SportsLizard.com is an "evolution" of collecting. Collecting has historically been behind the times with technology, but within the next few years as people become more and more dependant on new technologies, I believe that they will expect the sports collectibles industry to be offering the same level of innovation. That is the reason for the RSS News Feed (see ad below), the Mobile Site, and now the Enhanced Browsing. I hope everyone gives these tools a fair shot and is able to see how they can enrich their collecting experience. For most collectors, this may be their first exposure to technologies such as RSS (it stands for Really Simple Syndication), but it certainly won't be their last. Using these tools is a great way to learn about the technology of tomorrow while enhancing your collecting experience today. Sincerely, Adam McFarland |
