Five Great Sports Collectibles Sites That You’ve Probably Never Heard Of By Adam McFarland |
|
I am constantly scouring the internet for new and interesting sports collectibles sites. Sometimes it is to size up SportsLizard.com’s competition, or look for stories for our weekly news report, or to just increase my knowledge of the hobby, The other day I realized that I had hundreds of sports collectibles sites in my favorites, many of which I visit regularly and help me a great deal. I thought to myself - people that don’t spend hours scouring the net for sports collectibles websites would probably appreciate some of this knowledge a great deal. Below I have narrowed my list to five sites that the average collector probably doesn’t know about, but I couldn’t live without.[read more] |

Upper Deck and Sunkist have teamed up to include a special series of hockey cards in bags of oranges sold in Canada. One card can be found in each specially marked bag from December 2005 through May 2006. The few of you who read this market report every week know that I like to put a sarcastic spin on real news. In this case, it's hard to believe that this is real news and that I didn't make it up. But seriously, I don't think I could have thought of this idea in a million years. Don't take that as a compliment Upper Deck, I don't think I would ever think to sell meatballs with diapers either, mostly because both ideas are equally ludicrous. Spend more time on working that Card Geek promotion (see below) and less time packaging your cards with hamburgers (see November 9 weekly report) and oranges. Oh, and get this, the cards are ORANGE and have a little Sunkist orange in hockey skates on them, how creative! |

Collector Pulls Card With Autographs From Four Original Hall of Famers |
|
Barry Scott of Guntown, Mississippi opened a pack of 2005 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts that contained a once in a lifetime card featuring the signatures of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, and Walter Johnson, four of the five inductees into the inaugural class of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The card, which has an estimated value of $20,000, went up for auction today. The article goes on to say "According to Scott, a Mississippi collector has already offered him $50,000 for the card." Ummm...OK. So experts say it will go for $20,000 + in an auction. And he was offered $50,000 and still decided to put it up for auction? Hey Barry, $50,000 is greater than $20,000. A lot greater. You better hope you get more than that in the auction. [read article] |
