| Pistol Pete Card Going for Giant Price |
From Beckett: "(We) ran across this first-ever Pete Maravich autograph card, a crown jewel of the 2006-07 Press Pass Legends set released Jan. 24. This is the first Maravich auto from the set we've seen surface, and this one is numbered 1/5. Will be interesting to watch whether collectors will fight it out for this card . . . or will the auction fizzle under the weight of the astronomical Buy It Now price?" My take: This seller has to be on crack. No way anyone pays even close to $5,499. I know that Pistol Pete is a legend, and that there are only five of these cards. I also understand that he's been dead since 1988 and autographs are hard to come by. But for comparison, an authenticated signed check recently went up for auction for $400. Good luck buddy.

| UD Releases Super Bowl QB Figures |
From Upper Deck: "Helping to perpetuate that point of view, Upper Deck will launch three superhero-inspired vinyl action figures based on three Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks during the week of the big game: Ben Roethlisberger ( Jan. 30 at 9:07am PT), Brett Favre (Jan 31 at 9:04am PT) and Tom Brady (Feb.1 at 9:12am PT). Only 1,000 of each have been produced and will be offered exclusively online (www.allstarvinyl.com; MSRP $49.99), making the 11-inch action figures – based on the stylized realism found in comic-book art –arguably the most limited league-licensed football figures ever released to collectors." My take: Ok, yes the figures were extremely limited and they all sold out immediately. But they probably are not nearly as limited as some of the 1988 regional NFL Starting Lineups, but whatever you say Upper Deck. My real problem is the comic-book-art poses. Check them out on AllStarVinyl and tell me with a straight face that anyone would want one of those in their collection for any reason other than they are limited? Just like the LeBron's, I'm not buying into UD's figures.

| McFarlane MLB 18 Photos |
From McFarlane: "Major League Baseball has been blessed with an abundance of talented rookies and breakout young stars, and next May's MLB 18 lineup shows a healthy respect for these "young guns." Mix in a pair of unique sequel figures for two of the game's best players and you've got a dynamite lineup sure to please collectors everywhere." My take: The set includes Ryan Howard, David Ortiz 2, Justin Verlander, Mariano Rivera 2, David Wright, and Brandon Webb. Isn't it shocking that we're already on the 18th set of McFarlane MLB figures? Anyway, the Rivera-coming-out-of-the-bullpen pose far and away takes the cake. The other poses are great (especially the Big Papi), but don't include a freaking outfield wall with a door on a hinge!
