McFarlane Announces NBA 12 Lineup
Last week McFarlane announced the lineup for the NBA 12 line to be released later this year. McFarlane decided to go against their recent history and actually give some new players a chance. Gilbert Arenas, Chris Paul, and Tony Parker make their Sports Picks debuts, along with Elton Brand, LeBron James, and Dwayne Wade. I'm glad to see McFarlane recognize some guys that don't have figures yet. It's hard to believe that guys like Gilbert Arenas and Tony Parker have had the success that they've had and haven't yet had figures made of them.

Cam Ward Collectibles Hot
Rookie Goaltender Cam Ward has been the greatest beneficiary of the Carolina Hurricanes Stanley Cup in the world sports collectibles. Ward's timely saves were one of the biggest reasons that the Hurricanes were able to win two game sevens, and overcome a 2-0 deficit in the first round against Montreal. For all his hard work, he was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP and collectors have certainly noticed. According to the article, "his short-printed Upper Deck (No. 229) card shot up from $15 to $50 over the past two months. His SPX rookie jersey autograph (No.166) tripled from $40 to $120 and his Black Diamond card (No. 152) has jumped from $15 to $40 the past two months." Not bad for a guy who entered the playoffs as a backup. [read article]

Players Love Being Made into Sports Picks
This interesting article from the East Valley Tribune discusses just how important it is for professional athletes to have McFarlane make a figure of them. The article has quotes from athletes like Shawn Marion, Larry Johnson, and Luis Gonzalez discussing how cool it is to be immortalized as a really detailed six inch piece of plastic. It's nice to see that these guys, despite all of their success, still think it's awesome when a guy like Todd McFarlane decides to make a figure of them. You get the feeling that they don't feel the same way about a bobble head doll. That just goes to show how great of a brand McFarlane has created. [read article]
