Steve Nash Autographs Hit the Market With a Bang

By Ross Gunn of Sportscardinfo.com Steve Nash has been considered one of the game's top floor generals since his emergence in Dallas in 1998. Nash originally was drafted by Phoenix in 1996 but his stay there was short-lived. After spending two seasons backing up KJ and Jason Kidd, Nash was shipped to Dallas for Martin Muursepp, Bubba Wells, Pat Garrity and a 1999 1st round pick, who turned out to be Shawn Marion. Nash eventually emerged as a superstar in Dallas where he played beside longtime friend Dirk Nowitzki. However, after six years in Dallas Nash tested the free agent market in the summer of 2004 and landed a 65 million dollar payday from his original team, the Phoenix Suns. Now, coming off a career year in which he led the Suns to a league best 62 wins and won his first MVP trophy, Nash has his eyes on an NBA Championship. However, he first will have to get past his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, in the second round (series is currently tied 1-1). Having had such a successful year from both an individual and team standpoint, it's no wonder Nash's cards are in high demand. |
Steve Nash is one of the few superstars left in the NBA with a limited amount of certified autographs in print. However, that may change shortly as both Upper Deck and Fleer have released Nash autographs or autograph redemptions. Upper Deck has released numerous buyback Nash autographs in their 2004-05 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Product, two of which can be seen below.

However, prior to this season Nash's only NBA licensed auto was the 1996-97 Skybox Autographics. This gem has always been in high demand and more often than not, it exceeds the $200 mark on ebay.

It's a sure bet that card companies will continue to try and produce Steve Nash autographs in the near future, especially after his MVP season. The future supply really depends on Nash's willingness to keep inking up. Regardless of how things go between Nash and the card companies, one thing remains certain: Steve Nash's autographs will remain high on collectors' wantlists for years to come.
